Changed out some gears, added larger motors with more torque and we have a beautifully walking rover. It's supposed to be slow but the rover in the video is at less than 50% power.
TE+ND (Terrestrial Exploration + Nurture Designed) Rovers are an interactive art project that explore migratory ecology in an era of climate change. The rovers are robotic fostering environments that care for their own garden of native plants by interacting with participants and actively seeking out light and water.

Took some time to decompress from Camp CARPA. Living in the desert with some amazing artists for a week was a little like visiting another planet. I'm posting a few photos of the event and some amazing animals we got to spend time with while doing the rover field test.
Photos in order: surveillance of the Afghan training village for the US military via Josh's telescope, photos of the village at night, breakfast at Camp CARPA (KChung radio is mostly in the photo along with Besty Greer), me giving a talk and demo of the rover in my TE+ND Rover uniform (thanks Stephanie Syjuco for the pix!), found a leopard gecko!, rover field test, female tarantula wasp resting, tarantula in the setting sun.

Corey and I have been keeping quiet about the latest rover deployment because CARPA requested it. Its kinda like DARPA but the 'c' stands for craft. Had a great time, met some amazing people and did some field research for the project. We collected local plants, insects and soil samples to learn about what to plant on the growing station. Thanks everyone for an amazing week in the desert, some amazing projects and great new friends!

The rover made it safely to Australia! If you are in Sidney this week, please check out MOP Project Gallery for special gallery related events. There will be demonstrations, lectures and of course, a few parties! Special Thanks to Maddie for all of her hard work getting the rover to the show.
Pictured below is the latest model (named Creamsicle) before it headed down under.

Corey and I have been working on a new rover model. If you are going to this year's Maker Faire in San Mateo, CA, check it out at the Type A Machines booth! Ask to take it for a spin! It will be fully drive-able with RC controls.

The TE+ND working model is going to Australia! It will be shown at the MOP Projects Gallery in Sydney as part of the Intra-Action Exhibition presented as part of the Australian Animal Studies Group Conference at the University of Sydney, July 8-10, 2013. It will be shown along with works from Kathy High and Beatrice de Costa (among many others). Special thanks to the University of New South Wales, University of Sydney, and MOP for hosting. A very special thanks to Madeleine Boyd and Dr. Eben Kirksey for putting it all together. Check out the Intra-Action Exhibition website here.
